What A Wonderful World

August 5, 2008 · No Comments

First day back at school wasn’t too bad… in fact it felt like I was living out a scene in Malory Towers or St. Clares; yelling out hellos and getting excited about seeing people, mad waves, etc. In fact, it all felt kinda good!

But well, the social part is rarely the hard part. I mean, I still cannot stand some people at school, but didn’t cross paths with them today, and bimbotic as it sounds it was fun waving and getting excited to see people! It was like a grand reunion.

And of course it was fun to check people out - those who have lost or put on a shitload of weight, more pimples, more makeup, new clothes, new hair… it all made for a great gossipping session over lunch.

Yes, yes, I’m such a gossip queen. <3

I Carry Your Heart With Me

August 2, 2008 · No Comments

After my slamming session just now which was really more verbal vormit than anything, I’m going to balance that entry with a more meaningful one.

(I hope.)

So slightly more than a month after the birthday, I was quite soundly surprised when Aaron, Kristi, Cheryl and Bryan walked up to me at the finals of the AC Intercolls, with presents! And very meaningful ones at that. Why? Because I got my first journalist pad, a frame with a picture in it that means so much to me, and chocolates! Now chocolates may not sound meaningful, but to me it is, because I think it shows how much they know me, and so, lame as it might sound, it was meaningful.

Another reason why I was so touched, I think, was because I know Cheryl mentioned before that she never gets presents for people. That, and knowing that she went to four bookstores to try getting me the book that I want showed how she was breaking her own habits just to make me happy, and what can beat that?

Most importantly, I think the presents really show how much we mean to each other. It made me feel that these are people I want to keep in touch with, no matter how difficult it may get in the future when everyone’s separated and moved on.

And so, mushy as it sounds, and however much it sounds like a love poem for couples:

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart).

School and Retards

August 2, 2008 · No Comments

School is starting! :( I am seriously dreading the long journeys, the classes and some of the people.

I don’t think I’ve said this before, but some people at school really irk me. Just that day a couple of us who took this module last year met up after our tutor suggested a gathering. And since most of us haven’t met since like, the start of internship, I guess a lot of the talk was about how it went. Then this guy, who did his internship at Reuters, turned to me and asked, “so how’s it like working for a fucked up boss like C?”

I was shocked beyond words. He had this stupid smirk on his face, like he was so smart or something. I asked him what he meant by that, and he said, “well, he fakes his quotes. Everyone in the industry knows that.”

What an idiot! I was really irritated, but didn’t want to create a scene so I just said that in my opinion, C was a good boss, and I enjoyed working for him. But that stupid guy just kinda ignored my comment and went on repeating how C is fucked up, blah blah.

Now, I wonder if this guy is retarded or something, because when my boss writes stories, it’s usually not about some small measly deal. It’s usually breaking news pieces where quotes come from CEOs. So if he really fakes his quotes, I’m sure he wouldn’t be able to get away with it because the CEOs will bloody be calling us to complain and request a correction.

Also, Reuters actually tracks the stories. Many of the stories that my boss writes, Reuters sees them and gets its own journalists to write them as well. So wth?!

And lastly, C was previously from Reuters, so… if he fakes his stories, then errm, why didn’y Reuters fire him?

What a retard! Seriously. (O and just a little tidbit: this guy applied to Dow for his internship but didn’t get it.)

And the worse thing was that we girls got into trouble that night, where we had this disgusting old man- a friend of our tutor- who kept wanting to hug us and take pictures. And what did this guy, who was the only guy there apart from our tutor and his friend, do? He just sat back and didn’t help. Even after we told him that we were uncomfortable because that guy kept touching us!

What kind of a man is this? Arrogant as hell when he doesn’t have anything to be arrogant about, and ungentlemanly!

A man like him needs to get slapped by women 1,000 times I think. To rid them of their over inflated egos.

Sunset Boulevard

July 10, 2008 · No Comments

Regardless of how little I know a person, knowing that he/she has passed on always makes me a little sad.

Which is so weird because I don’t think that living leads to that much happiness, and if I’m not close to that person I can’t possibly be sad about being unable to spend time together, right?

Friday

July 7, 2008 · No Comments

It was beautiful, happy, exciting and memorable all at once.

Farewell dinner at Gyu Kaku was excellent with lots of sake, beer and meat. Midway into the dinner Costas made a nice speech, which made everyone cheer and had me not knowing what to say except ”thank you.”

Then there were the presents. They were very simple things, but some came from the most unexpected people, and what can beat pleasant surprises like these?

This entry obviously falls short of everything I felt and experienced on Friday, but it’s so hard to put into words everything that I felt, and all that happened. Plus, there’s no need to write it in detail, because I think I’m going to remember it for a long, long time without having to refer to whatever’s written here.

It was a great farewell, and it’s been a fantastic ride. I wish I didn’t have to leave; and that school would be half as exciting and enjoyable as this has been. And I bet that come tomorrow, I’ll feel it all the more because for the first time in many months, I’ll actually not be heading to Tanjong Pagar on a weekday.

But the bosses have told me that I can come back during my holidays, and an offer of sorts has already been made for when I graduate next year. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything proceeds smoothly.

Hacienda Has No Ice Cream

June 29, 2008 · No Comments

So I’m gonna stay at Dow for one more week!

It’s the second extension, and I guess it pretty much says everything about how I feel over the past 6 months. It’s probably been the best time I’ve had in a long while, and I’m not looking forward to saying goodbye at all, even though I’m really looking forward to the farewell party. Haha! Crazy, I know.

I wish year 4 would just hurry and be over! And I wish Gossip Girl Season 2 would start showing quickly!

And yes I know the title has nothing to do with the post - not directly, anyway.

I Know All I Talk About These Days Is Work, But

June 12, 2008 · No Comments

that’s really a big part of life right now, so what to do?

Apparently it’s been confirmed that the WSJ will indeed be picking up my article, but unless I see the article in the Journal I’m not gonna go around broadcasting it to the whole wide world, especially to the school and my friends at school. (not that I would broadcast it to everyone when it’s out anyway)

Wouldn’t it be so good if the article really appeared on Monday?

Japanese barbecue on Saturday! Can’t wait. And if anyone’s gonna buy me a birthday present, please get me things such as a long wallet, white jeans, blue jeans, bag, etc! They are desperately needed.

OMG I am getting so thick skinned. I hate myself. haha!
